Treasuring Time

The concept of my project is based on creating a family tree, I believe, personally that it is a journey of sorts, where it is about discovering, searching and digging deep, looking to your roots. For many people it is somewhat a spiritual experience, one can understand where they've come from and sometimes they can find out some interesting facts about themselves whether they are related to someone famous or important; you never know.

Made from Pine, an easy to keep and a lasting timber. Simply by applying some beeswax polish can keep the timber's luster. Being made entirely from timber, it gives it a more authentic and handcrafted appeal; as timber is a lasting material it can go for generations. The product is a constructable, where branches - which represents offspring and the spheres representing a relationship or a family connecting to each other through the same means as a science molecules kit. Creating this tree could be a family project where they would understand more about their family, and through time, it could be passed on from generation to generation to further add to it. In a sense, the product could become a sculpture which can be a centre piece in a household as the extended family grows, so does the tree. Furthermore, being made from timber, to add a more personal touch, one can get the branches engraved with the name of the person, or other important dates such as birth or the day they passed away. Through time, the earlier branches and trunk would age and eventually the image of a aged tree with newer branches being made from new timber and the older generations of progressively older timber.

I think this would be a fabulous idea for a young family and having the ability to watch the tree grow. It would also be a great source of tracing back family roots and building the tree from research and tracing family history. It would be interesting to watch each side of the tree grow and diminish. i really like the idea but it would be cool to either use a colour code or have markers for different sides of the family or generations. really cool :)

i like the idea, like em said some sort of customisation for each part would be cool. also if the tree gets really big the inserts might not be able to hold the weight, maybe teh rods need to be a different material.

the engraving part is pretty cool, makes it really elegant and sophisticated and timelesss, which is good since it's something that should last a long time for generations to keep adding on to. cant think of any negatives dude. good stuffff!!

sweet idea and great model making, your project is so elegant and sophisticated. it's a real family tree which can be seen and playing with it.

one improvement may be the base, could be different sizes to suit different sized families.

I really like this idea as it is a new way of showing your family connections. Althought harder to read than a normal written family tree, this one is interactive and actually motivates people to look at it. Perhaps having different colours to show each side of a family would be nice, but all in all good job :)

this is a great idea and i love how its something you can keep adding more parts to. a possible piece of decoration that means much more to the people who understand its meaning. like what has been said before, probably making the base more solid and heavy as to hold and balance the weight of all the branches would be advisable but apart from that i like this design alot!

This idea turned out better than i thought it would .the idea of assembling your own family tree is something that many people do on a regular basis. I like that now this record can be 3D and even a centre peice for the family.
